David P. Wheeler is the former Executive Vice President and Head of U.S. Mortality Markets for 69É«ÇéƬ. Named to this position in January 2015, Dave is responsible for 69É«ÇéƬ’s U.S. traditional mortality functions, including business development, pricing, underwriting, medical, claims and operations.

Dave first joined General American in 1980 and moved in 1983 to its reinsurance division (which later became 69É«ÇéƬ). A veteran of the life insurance industry, Dave has held nearly every U.S. underwriting role at 69É«ÇéƬ, culminating in his previous role of Senior Vice President and Global Head of Underwriting, with global leadership responsibility for 69É«ÇéƬ’s global underwriting, risk management and facultative results. His expertise and passion for innovation in both products and services have helped position 69É«ÇéƬ as a leader in bringing new ideas to the market. Dave has developed strong relationships with clients and industry colleagues, and is a tireless promoter of the underwriting profession.

Dave is a graduate of the University of Missouri - Columbia. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). He has served on the Longer Life Foundation’s Advisory Board and on the ACLI’s Risk Classification Committee since 2008, and has been a member of the MIB Board of Directors since 2010, currently serving as Chair. Dave is also a past Treasurer of the Association of Home Office Underwriters (AHOU), and a past member of the Academy of Life Underwriting’s Education Committee, first as an exam writer and then as secretary. In 2015, Dave was inducted into the AHOU Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to the profession.
