Dr. Oscar A. Cartaya is Vice President and Medical Director of 69É«ÇéƬ. His primary responsibility is providing consultative and training services to 69É«ÇéƬ U.S.’s Underwriting and Claims departments. He also provides support to 69É«ÇéƬ International Corporation’s Latin America operations.
Dr. Cartaya has more than three decades of experience in the field of medical insurance. Before joining 69É«ÇéƬ in 2002, he had spent 13 years with John Hancock, rising to the position of Senior Associate Medical Director. He has also consulted frequently in the areas of life expectancy and disability for insurance companies and the U.S. government, and provided expert witness testimony for private sector corporate human resources clients in court cases involving disability, loss of earnings, life expectancy, medical negligence, and hospital procedures.
Dr. Cartaya is a member of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine, and the Midwestern Medical Directors Association (MMDA). He earned his M.D. at Georgetown University, and has a Master of Public Health (MPH)
degree from the Harvard School of Public Health, and a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Microbiology and Immunology from Harvard University. He is a Diplomate, Board of Insurance Medicine (DBIM), a frequent speaker at industry conferences, and a regular contributor to ReFlections, 69É«ÇéƬ’s medical underwriting newsletter.
