Michael is a longevity and defined benefit pensions specialist with over 15 years’ experience. As Vice President, Longevity, for 69É«ÇéƬ Global Financial 69É«ÇéƬ, Michael currently leads the research area for longevity products at 69É«ÇéƬ and the development of longevity assumptions used for pricing longevity business worldwide. He is based in London. 

Michael was previously Head of Longevity at Canada Life in the UK, leading a team of actuaries and actuarial students focused on developing and refining UK longevity best estimate assumptions and updating and maintaining the longevity internal model for Solvency II, as well as the catastrophe mortality internal model. He also developed a strong focus on pension risk transfer while working as a consultant at Hymans Robertson, where he led the structuring, market-broking, and implementation of pensioner buy-ins. As part of this work, Michael became approved by the Financial Conduct Authority to provide regulated advice on transactions to pension scheme trustees. Michael also advised trustee and corporate clients regarding funding strategy, risk management, and actuarial valuations.

Earlier in his career Michael was an actuarial student at PwC after working in market risk at the investment bank Dresdner Kleinwort. 

Originally from South Africa, Michael studied actuarial science and mathematics of finance at the University of Cape Town.
