Dr. Valerie Kaufman, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Director, leads the U.S. medical team that implements 69É«ÇéƬ’s medical underwriting philosophy and strategy. The team provides mortality risk assessments on referred cases, assists with the development of medical underwriting guidelines, provides training for 69É«ÇéƬ and client underwriters, and advises on other medically related issues.
Before coming to 69É«ÇéƬ in 2015, Dr. Kaufman served as Vice President and Chief Medical Director at MassMutual, Assistant Vice President and Medical Director at Sun Life Financial Canada, and Assistant Medical Director at Phoenix Home Life.
An active member of the insurance community, Dr. Kaufman has spoken on a variety of medical topics at local, regional, and national industry meetings and co-authored an article for the Journal of Insurance Medicine. In addition, she is a past President of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM) and was Chair of the AAIM Education Committee from 2002 to 2009.
Dr. Kaufman received her M.D. degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Canisius College. She is a Diplomate of the Board of insurance Medicine (DBIM) and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).
